At least £17,000 has been raised through a sponsered abseil to boost funds for young cancer patient Nikita Moore. Now her family say the money collected from the Mission Possible may be used to take her to Mexico for ground-breaking new treatment.

Nikita, from Peasedown St John, has tumours on her head and in her lungs and the 11-year old has been fighting different forms of cancer for several years.

Inspired by her plight, 84 volunteers took part in an abseil down the 160ft Eagle Tower, the tallest building in Cheltenham, on Sunday. One of the abseilers was Timsbury’s Matthew Holbrook, who has been using reiki treatment to help Nikita for the past couple of weeks. “I’ve had a life-long fear of heights and I am amazed I was able to go through with it,” he said. “My £1,059 of sponsorship was the deciding factor when I began the descent. I was certainly glad when I was back on the ground.”

Nikita’s Mum, Tracey Trezise, does not know the exact total raised yet but says she knows it is more than £17,000. She is considering taking Nikita to the Oasis of Hope hospital in Mexico where treatment using intravenous injections of vitamins is being tried. “They have not tried it on Nikita’s type of tumour yet, because it is rare,” she said. This treatment could cost £13,000 but Mrs Trezise added “Then there’s the air fare and supplements and I expect you are talking about £16,000 - so we now have enough money. “When we were up there for the abseil we spoke to some people and I didnt know anyone, because they were from all over. “For people to come forward like that was quite overwhelming. “There were loads of people there and they were all there to support Nikita, whether it was a small amount or up to a thousand, they were still willing to jump for Nikita. Without them we wouldnt have support now.”

Since a bout of pneumonia which hospitalised her two weeks ago, Nikita’s condition has improved. She is now off oxygen and resting at home. This week she was keeping busy by writing Christmas cards for all her friends at Somervale School in Midsomer Norton.

Hey Nikita, I read about you on Post Pals and just wanted to let you know how brave I think you are … I loved your website too, lovely pink colours.
You sound very like my daughter, who is 9, and who love sher drama, singing, dancing, card making, trampoling etc … she even likes cute boys too, like you say on your site, so I kind of think she is very similar to you!
    Best of luck to you
