Nikita Moore

The road to recovery from Cancer is never easy on both those affected by the disease and those affected by their plight. Nikita’s recovery we know is always keenly balanced and is directly related to her environment. Unfortunately on Thursday 9th November Nikita was rushed into hospital with Pneumonia, an infection contracted from that very environment. Whilst the usual ‘Common Cold’ for us is at worst an inconvenience in our life and at best an excuse not to do something, for Nikita it could be a Death Sentence. Our concerns about her environment and the impending stark Winter months ahead were realised.

Nikita bravely attempted to cover her cold, which quickly turned into an infection. She had been coughing up blood and did not wish to concern those around her. When you only have one lung doing the job of two and that efficiency is hampered by the tumours you are immediately in battle for survival itself.

Everyone is working hard to support Nikita as she refuses to give in and succumb to the infection. We know that this little girl with the big heart is not ready to let an infection stop her from maximising her life.

The future however is less certain. The weather report for the coming Winter months is bleak, with the potential for it being the worst on record. Nikita has encountered just the first touch of an impending stark, cold, wet and potentially deadly season. Not the best environment to give someone a ‘Fighting Chance’.

We are redoubling our efforts to create enough money to send Nikita and her Mother to the Canary Islands, until the worst of the Winter is over. The warm dry environment will allow her to heal naturally and concentrate on battling the tumours without further complications of a a British Winter.

I asked Nikita the other day ‘If you could have anything at all in this World, what would it be?’ She replied ‘To get rid of this cancer and one day get married!’ An interesting and inspiring reply, which had the effect of humbling me. No sports cars or celebrity fame, no wealth or diamonds amongst the needs of this remarkable girl. A healthy life and someone to love, probably what all of us take for granted and if we are truthful, sometimes squander and fail to appreciate. This is the greatest wish of a little girl. Which Genie with a lamp would refuse to grant such a simple request? Well you know we are all Genies, in a way. Genie is a just a state of mind. The lamp that lights our path is our resources to help another find theirs. I would ask that all of you that have ever had what this brave child desires, a healthy life and someone to love, now finds it your heart to give Nikita a little light to allow her to experience what you have, or have had in the past. You can make a difference!

For Nikita to survive long enough to get married would be in the eyes of the Medical profession, a miracle. Well miracles do happen and I do not know of a more deserving person to grant that wish to.
